Tamil Nadu: Strict monitoring of ambulance service under election code of conduct

Chennai. Assembly elections are about to be held in Tamil Nadu and the election code of conduct has come into force in the state. Under this, 108 emergency ambulance service has also been brought under the purview of the rules. In this regard, State Head of 108 Ambulance Service Selv Kumar and Regional Head Mohammad Bilal have issued a press release and given detailed information.

Assembly elections are going to be held in Tamil Nadu on 23 April. For this, the Election Commission had made an official announcement on March 15 and with that the code of conduct came into force. Under this, many rules have been implemented for the candidates and common people. If you carry more than Rs 50,000 in cash, it is mandatory to carry its documents.

Due to this, now the patients being transported in 108 ambulance and their accompanying family members will not be allowed to carry large amounts of cash with them. If they take the money then its information will be recorded in the relevant document.

New rules for 108 ambulance employees

In view of the assembly elections, many new restrictions have also been imposed for the drivers and employees of 108 ambulances. According to which, ambulance drivers and employees cannot participate in any kind of political activities while on duty. Currently around 1,353 ambulances are being operated across Tamil Nadu through a private health service company.

Notices regarding election related rules have also been put up in these ambulance vehicles. According to them, carrying any item other than medical equipment in the ambulance will be prohibited during the elections.

Similarly, apart from the patient and his family members, it will also be prohibited to carry any other person in the ambulance without permission. Emergency vehicles can be checked only by authorized employees of the state government, police officers and election observers.

Monitoring people coming in ambulance

Ambulance drivers and staff will also have to ensure that the patient or his/her attendants do not open boxes or equipment kept in the ambulance, to prevent the possibility of carrying cash or other items.

Apart from this, the people coming in the ambulance should not have any election related material. Election campaign related stickers or election symbols also cannot be placed on ambulances.
