Many highways blocked due to continuous rain, snowfall and landslides in Nepal
Kathmandu. Incessant rain, snow and landslides in various parts of Nepal have completely disrupted traffic on major highways, leaving hundreds of travelers stranded on the way.
Due to heavy snowfall in Rukum East, Lukum-Patihalna section of Madhyapahari Lok Highway has been blocked. According to the District Sentinel Office, 7 buses, 1 jeep and 5 motorcycles are stuck on this route, while more than 250 passengers are stranded.
Night buses from Kathmandu are also stuck in this area. Restoring road operations remains challenging due to continuous snowfall and rain. Apart from this, phone service is also disrupted in the area, affecting relief and coordination work.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Keshavraj Gyawali of District Sentinel Office Rukum East said that night buses from Kathmandu are also stuck in this section.
Similarly, the situation remains serious in the western region of the country also. Due to rain and landslides since Saturday morning, traffic has come to a standstill on the Downne section of the East-West Highway and the Butwal-Palpa road section of the Siddharth Highway. The road has been completely closed due to landslide with stones in Siddhababa area located in Dobhan of Palpa.
According to Traffic Management Office Butwal, the road has become extremely slippery in the Downe section, due to which traffic has come to a standstill on both sides. Vehicles were alternatively diverted towards Palpa route, but that route is also now blocked. According to the police, efforts are on to open the road, however, the work is being hampered due to continuous rain.
At present, life is affected due to weather in various parts of the country and the traffic system has become completely disrupted. Efforts are on for relief and restoration of road operations by the administration.
