These 5 IITs of India are in the top 100 of the world for studying engineering and technology.

Let us tell you that QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 has been released today. According to the ranking, five IITs have made it to the top 100 institutes in the world for studying engineering and technology fields. In this, two IITs have secured rank within the top 50. You can see the details of which IIT has achieved which rank below.

A total of five IITs have made it to the top 100. In the engineering and technology category, IIT Delhi is ranked 36th, while IIT Bombay is ranked 42nd. After this, IIT Madras is at 62nd place, IIT Kharagpur at 64th place and then IIT Kanpur at 86th place.

This time, IIT Delhi has performed best as any institute. It has six disciplines in the top 50, and leads India in four disciplines – chemical engineering (48th, entering the top 50 for the first time), electrical and electronic engineering (36th), mechanical, aeronautical and manufacturing engineering (44th, its best performance in more than a decade), and comprehensive engineering and technology (36th) – and second in computer science at 45th.

According to the rankings, India has secured 27 positions in the top 50 across different subject and faculty majors – more than double the 12 positions achieved in 2024 by 12 institutions.
