Horrific road accident in Andhra Pradesh – 10 passengers burnt to death, more than 20 injured
Hyderabad. A horrific road accident took place in Markapuram district of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday morning. Following a massive collision between a speeding tipper (truck) and a private bus, both the vehicles caught fire. In this tragic accident, 14 passengers burnt to death on the spot, while many others are seriously injured. The death toll is expected to increase.
According to preliminary information received from the police, the accident occurred near Rayavaram village between 6:00 am and 6:30 am. This private bus of ‘Harikrishna Travels’ was going from Nirmal in Telangana towards Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. A senior police officer of Markapuram said that the accident happened when the bus was taking a turn. Then a speeding tipper coming from the front hit him. The collision was so strong that both the vehicles immediately caught fire, leaving the passengers without even a chance to get out.
So far, 10 passengers have been confirmed burnt alive. The number of deaths is expected to increase. Around 20 injured passengers have been admitted to private hospitals in Markapuram, some of whom are in critical condition. There were about 40 passengers in the bus at the time of the accident. About 10 passengers sitting in the front part of the bus somehow managed to escape with their lives, but the people sitting in the rear part got trapped in the flames.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed deep sorrow and grief over this incident. According to the statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, the Chief Minister has taken stock of the situation by talking to senior officials. He has given instructions to provide better medical aid to the injured. Local MLA Kandula Narayana Reddy also visited the incident site and reviewed the relief operations. Police are still trying to identify the dead and investigate the exact cause of the accident.
