Ban on making reels or short videos in Delhi schools
Delhi: Delhi government has directed all schools to ensure that students, teachers and staff do not make reels or ‘short videos’ during school hours. The government stressed that such activities should not detract from academic work, discipline or the dignity of institutions. The Directorate of Education has also issued a circular in this regard. The directive emphasized that any activity that disrupts the teaching process or diverts the attention of students should be prohibited, dignity and respect of institutions should be maintained and the focus should remain on education.
In a circular issued by the Directorate of Education, it said that the Directorate has received information that ‘short videos’ are being made for entertainment in the school premises and school heads should strictly prohibit such activities during class time. However, the department said, content related to ‘academic, cultural or awareness related subjects’ can be created with prior approval of the competent authority and under the supervision of the teacher, provided that there is no hindrance in the educational activities and the safety and privacy of the students is kept in mind.
‘Serious action will be taken on violation of instructions’
The instructions also stated that no inappropriate, non-educational or promotional material should be recorded in the school campus. The department said, “All school heads have been instructed to convey these instructions to the staff and students and ensure their strict compliance. Also, a warning has been given that serious action will be taken in case of violation of the instructions.” The department described the matter as ‘extremely urgent’.
