IPL: Mumbai Indians started the IPL 2026 season with a resounding win by 6 wickets, in which they were successful in winning their first match of the season after 14 years in the Indian Premier League. In the first match of this season against Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians had a target of 221 runs in 20 overs, which they chased in 19.1 overs at the loss of just 4 wickets. The victory of Mumbai Indians saw the amazing batting of Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickleton, in which Rohit played an excellent inning of 78 runs while Rickleton scored 81 runs. With this victory, Mumbai managed to achieve a milestone which no other team has been able to achieve so far in the IPL.
Mumbai registered 25th win against KKR
Mumbai Indians’ record against Kolkata Knight Riders has always been excellent, which they continued in this match as well. This was Mumbai’s 25th win against KKR in IPL history, with which Mumbai Indians has become the first team which has managed to win 25 matches against any one team in IPL. Apart from this, this record is also held in the name of Mumbai Indians in terms of winning the most number of matches against a single team in IPL at one venue, in which they have achieved their 11th win in 13 matches against KKR at Wankhede Stadium. Mumbai Indians have chased a target of 200 or more for the sixth time in IPL, in which they are now behind only the Punjab Kings team who have achieved this feat 8 times.
Mumbai chased its biggest target in IPL
In this match, KKR team had given a big target of 221 runs to Mumbai Indians, which they were successful in achieving. With this, Mumbai Indians also created a new record in terms of chasing their biggest target in IPL. Earlier, Mumbai Indians had achieved the target of 219 runs in the match played against Chennai Super Kings in the year 2021. This has also become the biggest successful run chase in IPL history till date at Wankhede Stadium, in which earlier Mumbai Indians had achieved the target of 213 runs in the match against Rajasthan Royals in the year 2013.
