Russian military transport plane crashes, 29 people including six crew members killed
Moscow. Russian An-26 military transport plane hits a rock and crashes in Crimea. 29 people on board the plane died in this accident. These include 23 passengers and six crew members.
Contact with the military transport aircraft was lost at around 6:00 pm Moscow time (3:00 pm GMT) on March 31 during a routine flight over Crimea, the Tass news agency reported, quoting the Defense Ministry.
“Search and rescue teams have located the plane’s crash site. Six crew members and 23 passengers on board have died,” the ministry said.
The ministry estimates that the accident probably occurred due to some technical fault. The AN-26 is a light tactical military transport aircraft. It has been a mainstay of the military for decades and can carry cargo and up to 40 passengers over short and medium distances.
“The initial cause of the accident is a technical fault. An Army commission is working at the site,” the report said.
