Woman crossing tracks to reach platform dies after being hit by goods train

Anuppur. A woman who was crossing the tracks while changing the platform at the railway station of Anuppur district headquarters of Madhya Pradesh died during treatment after being hit by a goods train on Tuesday night.

It may be noted that construction work is being done at Anuppur Railway Station under the Amrit Yojana, in which the already constructed overbridge to go from one platform to another was demolished as it was bad, after which it has not been constructed till now.

Due to which people take risk by crossing the line to go from one platform to another. At the same time, the Railways built an overbridge which is at the end of the station, causing problems to the elderly and women.

According to the information, around 9 pm on Tuesday night, 47-year-old Hamida Begum, resident of Gram Panchayat Jamudi, Police Station Anuppur, was going from platform number 1 to platform number 3/4 with a ticket to go to Prayagraj.

Meanwhile, while crossing the tracks, she was suddenly hit by a goods train and was seriously injured. After the incident, the Railway Police took him to the District Hospital Anuppur, where he died during treatment.

Lack of overbridge became the reason for the accident
Local people say that there has been a demand for a long time for a ticket window on the south side along with an adequate and safe overbridge at the station.

Due to which the passengers coming from the south side will first have to wait at number 1 in the north direction. One has to come to the platform number 3/4 after taking the ticket from the ticket booth in the platform. During this, in a hurry to reach the train, people cross the queue and cross the platform, risking their lives. After demolishing the old foot bridge, a new bridge is under construction and the work is going on at a snail’s pace.

Questions raised on railway administration
This incident has raised many serious questions on the functioning of the railway administration. People say that if the construction of the overbridge had been completed on time or temporary safety arrangements had been made, such an accident could have been avoided.

Questions are also being raised on the role of RPF and GRP deployed on the spot. Adequate strictness is not being taken to prevent passengers from crossing the tracks, due to which such accidents are happening again and again.

outrage in the area
After the incident, huge anger is being seen among the local people. People have demanded that the overbridge under construction should be built as soon as possible.

Till the construction is completed, alternative safe arrangements should be ensured and security arrangements should be tightened. This accident is not considered to be just an accident but the result of systemic negligence. Only time will tell how quickly the Railway Administration takes corrective steps after this serious incident.
