How many URLs have been blocked in digital media during Operation Sindoor?
Operation Sindoor: During Operation Sindoor, various types of misleading news were spread in the digital media. The government told the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that more than 1,400 ‘URLs’ were blocked on digital media for spreading fake news during Operation Sindoor. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan, in a written reply to a question, also said that a total of 2,913 ‘fact-checks’ have been published so far by the ‘Fact Check Unit’ (FCU) functioning under the Press Information Bureau.

Murugan said the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had issued instructions to block more than 1,400 ‘URLs’ on digital media during Operation Sindoor. In a written reply to another question, the minister said the government has taken around 144 actions in the last five years, such as canceling the permission of private satellite TV channels and issuing stop-broadcast orders, for violating the Program Code and the Advertising Code.
What is Operation Sindoor?
To avenge the Pahalgam attack, India had launched Operation Sindoor on the night of 6-7 May 2025 to destroy the terrorist camp of Pakistan. This was a secret operation of the Indian Army. Under this, India had targeted the terrorist camps and launch pads present across the border. The objective of this operation is said to be to destroy those bases from where infiltration and terrorist attacks in India were planned.

During Operation Sindoor itself, many types of misleading news were spread on social media and digital media. Now the Government of India has given this information in the Parliament. In this, the government has told what action was taken by the government against misleading information during Operation Sindoor.
