CBSE released new syllabus, made these changes

Delhi: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the new syllabus. Many changes have been made in it. It has been announced to implement the Three Language Formula in Class 6 in a phased manner from the academic session of 2026-27 and introduce a two-tier system of Mathematics and Science for Class 9. Additionally, ‘Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence’ (CT and AI) is also likely to be introduced from the academic session 2027–28.

According to the new secondary school curriculum released by CBSE, language subjects will be arranged in three levels – R1, R2 and R3. R1 (Language 1) will be the main language of the student, R2 will be a different language, R3 (Third Language) will be mandatory from Class 6 from this academic session 2026–27 and will be fully implemented till Class 10 by 2030–31.
The languages ​​chosen in R1 and R2 cannot be the same and should not be offered at more than one level at the same time. “The languages ​​include the two official languages ​​of India, i.e. Hindi and English, and 42 other languages. Thus, in addition to all the scheduled languages ​​listed in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India, other Indian regional languages ​​and foreign languages ​​are also being offered,” the CBSE notification said.

Two-tier system in mathematics and science from class 9
A two-tier system will be implemented in mathematics and science from the academic session 2026–27. All students will study the standard mathematics curriculum, which will include a three-hour general examination worth 80 marks. Whereas, an ‘Advanced’ part will have a separate paper of 25 marks, the objective of which will be to test higher-order thinking skills (HOTS).

This new curriculum will replace the existing ‘Basic’ and ‘Standard’ system of mathematics. This two-tier system (Standard + Advanced) in Mathematics and Science will begin in 2026–27, and the first board exams for Class 10 will be conducted in 2028.

New syllabus for social science
There will be new textbooks for Social Sciences, which will be in line with the ‘National Curriculum Framework for School Education’ (NCFSE 2023). These books cover history, geography, political science and economics, with special emphasis on case studies, maps and data analysis. As per the structure of assessment, the theory paper will be of 80 marks and internal assessment will be of 20 marks.
