Anurag Kashyap’s cult classic film Dev D will be released once again.
Mumbai . Anurag Kashyap’s cult classic film Dev D is going to return to the big screen once again. The film starring Abhay Deol, Kalki Koechlin and Mahie Gill will be re-released in select theaters on April 24. ‘Dev D’, released in 2009, gave the director a strong identity in Bollywood through its unique treatment and bold narrative.
In a recent interview, Anurag Kashyap spoke openly about the film. He told that ‘Dev D’ was not just a story, but the result of his inner anger and a rebellion against the system at that time. Their aim was to break the traditional ‘Devdas’ image and challenge its anti-women thinking. In the film, characters like Paro and Chanda were presented with a modern outlook, where they appear strong and self-reliant.
Anurag said that he wanted to make the audience uncomfortable rather than comforting, so that they think about topics like forgiveness and responsibility. He also deliberately kept the film’s ending different from the traditional happy ending. ‘Dev D’ is actually a modern adaptation of Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel ‘Devdas’, in which Abhay Deol, Mahie Gill and Kalki Koechlin played the lead roles.
Anurag Kashyap is very excited about the re-release of the film and hopes that the new generation will adopt the film and its music from a new perspective. ‘Dev D’ still holds a special place among cinema lovers for its different style and powerful story.
