RBI monetary review meeting from Monday, repo rate announced on April 8

New Delhi/Mumbai. The first Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) review meeting of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for the current financial year 2026-27 will be held from April 6 to 8, in which the decision on policy rate, repo rate and inflation will be taken.

According to the calendar released by RBI, with the beginning of the financial year 2026-27, the first three-day bi-monthly MPC review meeting of RBI will run from April 6 to 8.

This three-day meeting, chaired by RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, will begin from Monday, April 6 and continue till Wednesday, April 8. The RBI Governor will announce the decisions taken in the meeting.

The six-member Monetary Policy Committee headed by RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra will discuss important issues like the country’s economic condition, inflation rate in this review meeting.

In such a situation, the eyes of market experts and economists are fixed on the results coming on April 8, whether people’s EMI will reduce or will remain the same.

Most experts on economic matters believe that this time too RBI will not change the policy interest rates or repo rate. Earlier in the last financial year, in the MPC meeting held in February 2026, the repo rate was kept constant at 5.25 percent.

However, the Reserve Bank has reduced the repo rate by a total of 125 percent from February 2025 till now. The last cut was in December 2025, when the repo rate was reduced by 0.25 per cent to 5.25 per cent.

The Monetary Policy Committee of RBI consists of a total of six members. MPC usually works to decide the repo rate to control inflation.

Its members consist of three RBI officials (including the Governor) and 3 external members, appointed by the Central Government. It is noteworthy that RBI has released the MPC calendar.

The first three-day MPC review meeting of the RBI will be held from April 6 to 8, while the second monetary review meeting will be held from June 3 to 5.

After this, the third three-day meetings will be held on 3, 4 and 5 August, the fourth on 5, 6, 7 October, the fifth on 2, 3 and 4 December and the sixth on 3, 4 and 5 February, 2027.
