Rising fees have broken the backs of parents, when will private schools be banned?
Bijnor. As soon as the new academic session starts, the concern of parents has increased once again. The cost of children’s education increases so much every year that it becomes difficult for the common man to manage it. Amidst limited income and rising expenses, parents make every possible effort for the bright future of their children, even if they have to take loans or cut back on their needs.
The continuous increase in fees of private schools has broken the back of middle class and poor families. Along with fees, the amount charged as development charge, annual fee and other items is putting additional burden on the parents. The situation is such that in many schools, only a set of books from class 1st to 8th is available for thousands of rupees, due to which parents are left in a tizzy.
Not only this, pressure is also created by many schools to buy books and copies from the designated shops only. Materials are sold at these shops at expensive prices, due to which parents are forced to spend more. These days, the long queues at book sellers’ shops are a clear indication of how parents are struggling with this system.
The biggest matter of concern is that no concrete action is visible from the administration and concerned departments in this entire matter. For years there has been talk of making a law to control the fees of private schools, but till now no concrete steps have been taken in this direction.
In such a situation, there is a need for parents to unite themselves and raise their voice. Unless everyone comes together to take this problem seriously, it is difficult to expect a solution.
The government should also make a clear policy to stop the arbitrariness of private schools, set a limit on fees and ensure transparency in the sale of books. If concrete steps are not taken in this direction in time, education will remain out of reach of the common man. This will not only affect the future of children but will also increase inequality in the society.
