Chairman rejected the impeachment against the Chief Election Commissioner

New Delhi: The impeachment motion presented by the Rajya Sabha Chairman against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar (CEC) has been rejected. The opposition had demanded the removal of CEC. The impeachment motion was presented by 193 MPs. After the impeachment motion is rejected, Gyanesh Kumar will now continue in his post and no legal investigation or process will proceed against him.

193 MPs had made serious allegations
193 MPs from opposition parties had united and demanded the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner. In this proposal presented on March 12, 7 serious allegations were made against Gyanesh Kumar, which included allegations like biased and discriminatory attitude, misconduct, electoral fraud and snatching the right to vote.

Questions were raised regarding SIR process
Opposition parties had raised questions regarding the Special Intensive Revision or SIR process of voter lists, especially in Bihar and West Bengal. He claimed that due to this process many voters were deprived of their right to vote. It also said that the CEC acted in a partisan manner by favoring certain political parties. Many decisions of the Supreme Court were also cited in support of these allegations. Allegations of helping BJP were also included in the notice.

The opposition said the SIR process was aimed at benefiting the party in power at the Centre. In this, fairness of the election process and democratic rights were demanded.
