40 trees which were cut for elevated road in Udiyapol intersection of Udaipur were saved.

Udaipur . A unique and inspiring campaign was seen late on Thursday night at the busiest Udiyapole intersection of Udaipur city. Usually, trees are cut first during development works, but this time Udaipur Municipal Corporation, setting an example of environmental protection, decided to shift about 40 trees safely to another place instead of cutting them.

Actually, construction work of 2.7 km long elevated road is going on in the city from City Railway Station to Collector Bungalow at a cost of about Rs 136 crore. 117 pillars are to be built for this road, some of which are to be built in the middle of Udiyapol intersection. In such a situation, it became necessary to remove the trees growing there.

Instead of cutting the trees, the Municipal Corporation decided to shift them along with their roots to a safe place. This special operation started at around 11 pm on Thursday night. Big cranes, JCB and trailers were deployed on the spot. Municipal Corporation Commissioner Abhishek Khanna himself remained present at the spot till late night and monitored the entire operation. The help of experts was taken to remove the trees scientifically. Well-known tree expert Dr. B.L. Under the supervision of Chaudhary, the team of MM Agrotech dug a three to four feet deep pit around the trees and safely removed the roots along with the soil. After this, with the help of a crane, the trees were carefully lifted and placed on a trailer and taken to Nehru Bal Udyan, about a kilometer away.

In Nehru Bal Udyan, seven to eight feet deep pits were already prepared and manure and fertile soil were put in them, so that the trees could be planted there immediately. Six trees were successfully shifted on Thursday night, while the remaining trees will be shifted in the next two-three days. Most of these trees are palm trees, whose market price is around Rs 2 lakh. The total value of all the trees has been estimated to be more than Rs 60 lakh, whereas the corporation has decided to save them by spending only about Rs 1.25 lakh.

Municipal Corporation Commissioner Abhishek Khanna said that along with development work, environmental protection is equally important. For a tourist city like Udaipur, greenery is its identity and the corporation will continue to make every possible effort to save it.
