Road accident in Katihar, speeding bus collides with pickup van, 13 dead, many injured
Katihar/Patna. So far 13 people have died in a horrific road accident that took place on National Highway-31 in Katihar district of Bihar on Saturday evening, while 17 people are said to be seriously injured. This accident took place near Datpur Musahari near Basgada Chowk of Kodha police station area, when a speeding bus going from Harda to Purnia collided strongly with a pickup van coming from the front. The collision was so severe that both the vehicles were blown to pieces and two motorcycles passing by also got hit.
10 people died on the spot in the accident, while three others died during treatment. The injured were immediately admitted to Purnia Medical College Hospital and nearby health centres, where they are undergoing treatment. The team of doctors is trying to save the injured.
As soon as information about the incident was received, the local administration and police reached the spot and started relief and rescue operations. Following the accident, traffic on the highway was disrupted for some time, which was later restored. The police cleared the road by removing the damaged vehicles.
Draupadi Murmu has expressed deep condolences on this painful accident. He said that the road accident in Katihar is extremely painful and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. At the same time, Narendra Modi also expressed grief over the accident and announced an assistance amount of Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the families of the deceased and Rs 50 thousand to the injured.
Describing this incident as extremely tragic, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has also directed to give Rs 2 lakh each to the dependents of the deceased from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and Rs 50 thousand each to the injured. He also instructed the officials to ensure proper treatment of the injured. Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has also expressed grief over the accident and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
