A speeding truck crushed pilgrims walking on foot, seven people died in the accident

Surendranagar. 7 people died, while 4 others were seriously injured in a road accident in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district. The accident took place on the Lakhtar-Viramgam National Highway in the district, where a speeding truck crushed the pilgrims walking on foot.

President Draupadi Murmu, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed deep condolence over the road accident. According to Lakhtar police, around 1.30 am on the intervening night of Sunday-Monday, a group of devotees were going on foot from Rajkot to visit Bahucharaji Mata temple.

Meanwhile, a truck coming from behind lost control and went ahead, trampling the devotees. In this accident, 6 devotees and a dumper driver standing on the roadside died. The dead include 5 women and 2 men.

After the incident, area MLA P.K. Parmar and police officers reached the spot and met the victims’ families and consoled them. After the accident, the accused truck driver has been arrested by the police.

The deceased include Rajkot resident Masabhai Karshanbhai Mundhwa (59), Jaluben Masabhai Mundhwa (57), Raniben Mangabhai Lambaria (45), Jaluben Velabhai Mundhwa (45), Morbi resident Vijuben Praveenbhai Mundhwa (45), Vajiben Veebhabhai Mundhwa (52) and Jaideepbhai Hardeepbhai, resident of Shiyani village in Surendranagar.

Expressing grief over the accident, President Draupadi Murmu wrote on social media platform X that the news of death of people in a road accident in Surendranagar is extremely sad. He expressed condolences to the bereaved families and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Vice President Radhakrishnan said in a post on Twitter, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives and property in a tragic road accident in Surendranagar, Gujarat. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

Expressing grief over this incident, Prime Minister Modi said that the accident that took place in Surendranagar district of Gujarat is extremely painful. He expressed deep condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the accident and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

State Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel wrote on Twitter that the accident that took place on Lakhtar-Virangam Highway in Surendranagar is extremely sad and heart-wrenching. I pray to God for the peace of the souls of the pedestrians who lost their lives in this accident and the speedy recovery of the injured. In this hour of grief, my condolences are with the families of the deceased.
