Strong win for Punjab Kings, defeating Lucknow by 54 runs to remain on top

Mullanpur. PtJab Kings continued their great performance in IPL 2026 and registered their fifth win. In the second match played on Sunday, Punjab defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 54 runs and retained the top position in the points table. Earlier in the first match of the day, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Rajasthan Royals by 4 wickets.

After losing the toss and batting first, Punjab scored 254 runs losing 7 wickets at Mullanpur Stadium, which was the best score of this season. In reply, Lucknow team could score only 200 runs for 5 wickets.

Punjab’s innings had a bad start and the team lost the first wicket in the form of Prabhsimran Singh for just 3 runs. After this, Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly batted brilliantly and made a big partnership of 182 runs in 80 balls. Priyansh scored 93 runs and Connolly scored 87 runs.

In the end, quick innings by Nehal Wadhera (13), Shashank Singh (17) and Marcus Stoinis (29) took the team beyond 250. For Lucknow, M Siddharth took 2 wickets, while Mohammed Shami, Mohsin Khan and Prince Yadav got one wicket each.

Chasing the target of 255 runs, Lucknow had a fast start and the team scored 100 runs in 10 overs. However, after this the team came under pressure due to continuous fall of wickets. Captain Rishabh Pant top-scored with 43 runs, while Aiden Markram (42), Mitchell Marsh (40) and Ayush Badoni (35) contributed, but no batsman could score a half-century.

In bowling, Marco Jansson took 2 wickets, while Arshdeep Singh, Vijaykumar Vaishakh and Yuzvendra Chahal took one wicket each.

With this win, Punjab remains on top of the points table with 11 points, while Lucknow is in eighth place after its third consecutive defeat.
