‘Fire Safety Week’: Mock drills in hospitals, malls and schools, rescue methods taught

Lucknow. On the occasion of ‘Fire Safety Week’ in the capital, a large-scale awareness and training campaign was conducted by Uttar Pradesh Fire and Emergency Services. The operation was conducted under the direction of the Chief Fire Officer in different areas of the entire district, covering hospitals, schools, malls, hotels and other big institutions.

Under this campaign, a special mock drill was organized at Medanta Hospital. During this, the fire department and the security team of the hospital together practiced rescue operations in case of fire. With the help of hydraulic platforms and modern equipment, safe evacuation of people trapped in high-rise buildings was demonstrated. Also, doctors, nurses and staff were given information about what to do in case of fire.

Similarly, training programs were also organized at many prominent places including Gomtinagar Railway Station, Phoenix United Mall, Apollo Medics Hospital and Piccadilly Hotel. In these programs, the employees, security personnel and common people working there were informed about the causes of fire, its prevention and how to get out safely in case of emergency.

Awareness campaigns were also conducted in schools, where students and teachers were taught fire prevention methods. Apart from this, employees in industrial areas and factories were also trained in the use of fire safety equipment.

The fire department team also taught the correct way to operate a fire extinguisher, which is called PASS technique. This involves pulling the pin, aiming at the bottom of the fire, pressing the lever and extinguishing the fire by turning left and right.

Officials said that it is not enough to have equipment in any multi-storey building, but it is also necessary for the people working there to know how to use them properly. Therefore such training programs are organized from time to time so that in case of emergency people do not panic and can react in the right manner.

During the campaign, people were also told that it is very important to install smoke detectors in buildings, keep fire exits empty and use electrical equipment safely. People were made aware about fire prevention by distributing pamphlets in rural areas also.
