Trump calls India, China and some other countries ‘Hellhole’
Washington/New Delhi: Now clarification has come to light on the controversy that arose after US President Donald Trump reposted a controversial video on social media. The US Embassy in New Delhi has said that Trump considers India a ‘great country’ and the leadership here is in the hands of his ‘good friend’. Actually, this controversy started when Trump reposted a video in which radio host Michael Savage had described India, China and some other countries as ‘Hellhole’ i.e. ‘gateway to hell’. There was anger in India regarding this statement, in response to which the US Embassy spokesperson has given clarification.
India reacted strongly to the comments
A US Embassy spokesperson said, ‘The President has said that ‘India is a great country and I have a very good friend at the top there.’ However, the spokesperson did not clarify when and where Trump said this. India has given a strong reaction on this entire matter. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have seen these comments, as well as the clarification issued by the US Embassy.” He further said, ‘These comments are clearly factual, inappropriate and indecent. This does not at all reflect the reality of India-US relations, which have long been based on mutual respect and shared interests.
What is the ‘Gate to Hell’ controversy all about?
In the controversial video, Michael Savage was criticizing America’s current immigration laws. He alleged that some people take advantage of the law and reach America in the last stages of pregnancy, so that their children get citizenship there as soon as they are born. In the video, Savage said that in this way “a child born here immediately becomes a citizen” and then other family members come to America from “China, India or any other hellhole country in the world.”
