Raw. The Special NDPS Court of Bhuj has given a strict verdict in the famous case of international drug smuggling caught in the year 2021 on the Jakhau beach of Kutch.

The court has sentenced 20 years of rigorous imprisonment to 6 Pakistani citizens who conspired to smuggle heroin worth about ₹ 380 crore into the country through the Indian maritime border. Besides, a fine of Rs 2 lakh has also been imposed on each culprit.

What was the whole matter?
The matter came to light in December 2021, when Gujarat ATS received information from reliable sources that a boat named “Al Hussaini” from Karachi port in Pakistan was moving towards Indian waters carrying a huge quantity of heroin.

As soon as the information was received, ATS along with the Indian Coast Guard conducted a joint operation. On the morning of 20 December 2021, a suspicious boat was surrounded and caught in the sea near Jakhau. During the search, all the six people aboard the boat were found to be Pakistani citizens and heroin worth about ₹380 crore was recovered from them.

investigation and evidence
In this matter, a case was registered under the NDPS Act on 21 December 2021. During the investigation, the boat’s route, GPS data, international contacts, mobile records, forensic reports and other technical evidence were thoroughly examined.

ATS filed a strong charge sheet and presented a total of 203 documentary evidence and 13 witnesses in the court. This included ATS officers, Coast Guard personnel and forensic experts.

The Special NDPS Court of Bhuj convicted everyone on the basis of all the evidence and witnesses. The court said that drug trafficking is not only a violation of the law, but is also a serious threat to the young generation and internal security of the country.

The court convicted all of them under sections 8(C), 22(C), 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act and sentenced them to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and fine.

This decision, which came after four years, has made it clear that the law and security agencies are completely strict against those smuggling drugs through India’s maritime borders.
