The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Ganga Expressway in Hardoi district, which will be a significant achievement in the development of world-class infrastructure in the country. Ganga Expressway is a 594 km long, 6-lane (expandable to 8-lane), access-controlled greenfield high-speed corridor, constructed at a total cost of approximately Rs 36,230 crore. The expressway passes through 12 districts – Meerut, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj, connecting the western, central and eastern regions of Uttar Pradesh through a single seamless high-speed corridor.
The project is expected to reduce the travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from the current 10-12 hours to about 6 hours, thereby improving ease of commute and efficiency in transportation. The major feature of this project is the construction of 3.5 km long emergency landing facility (airstrip) in Shahjahanpur district. This dual-use infrastructure strengthens national security preparedness and provides strategic value in addition to economic benefits.
Ganga Expressway is envisaged as a major economic corridor, with integrated manufacturing and logistics corridors to be developed over an area of about 2,635 hectares in the 12 districts falling along its route. This expressway will reduce logistics costs, improve supply chain efficiency and boost manufacturing competitiveness.
Better connectivity will give farmers direct access to urban and export markets, which will help them get better prices and increase rural incomes. The project is also expected to boost tourism, open new economic opportunities and create direct and indirect employment opportunities across the region. The Ganga Expressway will also serve as the backbone of an extensive expressway network in the state, with several link corridors either operational or planned, including the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Jewar Link Expressway, Farrukhabad Link Expressway and the proposed extension from Meerut to Haridwar. This emerging expressway network will expand high-speed road connectivity from east to west and north to south in Uttar Pradesh, thereby enabling balanced regional development.
Ganga Expressway is not just a transport project, but a transformational initiative that will reduce logistics costs, attract industrial investment, boost agricultural and rural incomes, generate employment and drive overall economic growth across the state.
