Cruise filled with tourists drowns in Bargi Dam in Jabalpur, six bodies recovered, rescue continues
Jabalpur. A cruise full of tourists sank in the water near Khamaria Island due to a strong storm on Thursday evening in the Bargi Dam built on the Narmada River in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh. Till the time of writing the news, 6 bodies have been recovered, while 18 have been rescued safely. Abi, more than 15 are missing, the search for whom is going on.
Actually, during the summer season, people go to visit Bargi Dam in the evening. On Thursday evening the weather suddenly deteriorated and a strong storm started. Meanwhile, a cruise full of tourists sank near Khamaria Island due to loss of balance.
According to preliminary information, there were more than 40 people on board the cruise. As soon as the information was received, Bargi police station reached the spot and started relief and rescue operation with the help of SDRF.
Bargi City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Anjul Ayank Mishra has confirmed the recovery of six bodies. He told that there were 40 to 45 people aboard the MP Tourism cruise. This accident happened due to a sudden storm.
As soon as the information about the accident was received, the SDRF team reached for the rescue operation. Due to darkness the rescue operation is facing problems. However, people are being searched using big torches.
Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh described the accident as very painful. He said that at present the first priority of the administration is to find the missing people and rescue them safely. As soon as information about the accident was received, teams of district administration, SDRF and police were deployed on the spot and the rescue operation is going on continuously.
Instructions have been given to conduct a detailed investigation of the incident. He said that the Chief Minister will provide financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased. Also said that due to darkness it is too early to say anything on the number of casualties, the situation will become clear only after the rescue is completed.

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that after the Bargi Dam cruise accident in Jabalpur due to strong storm, the administration and rescue team are continuously running operations, while 15 people have been rescued safely, while the search for the missing people is going on.
He has instructed senior officials including Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh, Tourism Minister Dharmendra Singh Lodhi to reach the spot. He said that the government stands with the affected families and all possible help is being provided.
Here, former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh has also expressed grief. He wrote on X that the incident of sinking of the cruise ship in Bargi Dam of Jabalpur is very painful. There are reports of many casualties in the accident.
May God give peace to the departed souls. There is an appeal to the administration that the rescue operation should be expedited and every possible effort should be made to rescue the missing people soon. The administration should order a magisterial inquiry and take immediate action against the cruise contractor.
