Shahbaz Sharif betrayed Trump? ‘Pakistan is weakening Trump’s strategy’
Washington: Pakistan is playing the role of main mediator in the war between America and Iran. Meanwhile, something has happened due to which Islamabad is being accused of betraying Washington. These allegations are being made because Pakistan has provided 6 land routes to Iran for trade with Russia, China and other countries. This is happening when Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is talking big and saying that Pakistan has made all efforts for the success of talks between Iran and America.
‘Pakistan is weakening Trump’s strategy’
US national security expert Derek J. Grossman has warned that by giving this land route to Iran, Pakistan is undermining President Trump’s strategy of maximum economic pressure. This is because it will help Tehran bypass the US blockade of its ports and continue its oil trade without any interruption.
‘Islamabad played a double game!’

Question on Pakistan’s credibility
However, this is not the first time that Pakistan’s role as a mediator has been questioned. Israel has already accused Islamabad of being an unreliable player in the mediation process. Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar had expressed doubts over Pakistan’s ability to act as a credible mediator. He had said that this South Asian country is not trustworthy.
Iran has also raised questions
Apart from Israel, Iran has also expressed doubts over Pakistan’s neutrality in the negotiation process. Ebrahim Razai represents the Dashestan region of Iran and serves as the spokesperson for Iran’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission. Razai called Islamabad a good friend of Tehran but stressed that it was not a suitable mediator. He has claimed that Pakistan is biased and is more inclined towards America’s interests.
Pakistan’s attack on America’s strategy
Through the US Navy’s blockade of Iranian ports, Trump wants to put so much economic pressure on Tehran that it will be forced to accept American demands and end the war on his terms. Trump has also instructed his administration to be prepared for a long blockade. In such a situation, Islamabad has now put a dent in Trump’s strategy by giving six land routes to Tehran.
