Teacher gets 6 years jail in case of sexual harassment of student, court gives verdict

Shimla. A court has convicted and sentenced a government school teacher in a serious sexual assault case involving children in Shimla district. This matter is related to a case registered in Sunni police station, in which the decision has been taken after police investigation and hearing in the court.

The guilty teacher was accused of sexually exploiting a 15-year-old student studying in class XI. As soon as information about the matter was received, the school management had formed a Sexual Harassment Prevention Committee to investigate the matter. After this the committee investigated the allegations and submitted its report. After receiving the principal’s report, this complaint was lodged at Sunni police station.

In the FIR registered on November 6, 2024, at Police Station Sunni, a case was registered under Section 75(1)(i) of the Indian Justice Code and Section 10 of the POCSO Act. The accused in this case was Jai Prakash alias J.P., who at that time was working as a lecturer in English subject in a government senior secondary school. He was accused of serious sexual harassment.

The hearing of this case took place in the special court located in Shimla. Additional Sessions Judge, Special Judge (Fast Track Court, Rape/POCSO), Shimla convicted the accused after hearing. The court has sentenced the accused to 6 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 10 of the POCSO Act. Besides, a fine of Rs 10,000 has also been imposed.

According to the police, the case was investigated in a legal manner and all necessary evidence was collected and presented in the court. Due to the effective advocacy of the prosecution, the conviction of the accused could be ensured. In this entire case, the identity of the victim has been kept confidential, so that his dignity and safety is maintained.

SSP Shimla Gaurav Singh has said that strict action will be taken with sensitivity in such cases related to children and efforts will be made to give strict punishment to the culprits under the law.
