Fire of death in Delhi: 4 storey building of Vivek Vihar blazes, 9 lives destroyed, many struggling for life
New Delhi. Once again a tragic accident has come to light in the capital of New Delhi. A massive fire broke out late night in a four-storey building located in Vivek Vihar area, in which 9 people have been confirmed dead so far, while many others got burnt.
According to the information, the fire department received information about the fire at around 3:47 am on Sunday. The fire quickly spread to the flats on the second, third and fourth floors of the building, trapping many people inside.
As soon as the information was received, about 12 vehicles of the fire department reached the spot and relief work was started. Police and rescue teams together launched an operation to rescue people trapped in the building. So far, around 16 people have been evacuated safely, some of whom have suffered minor injuries. The injured have been admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that 9 people have lost their lives in this accident. The fire was so severe that many bodies were badly burnt, making it difficult to identify them. According to local councilor Pankaj Luthra, bodies have been recovered from different floors and DNA tests will be conducted to identify them.
Teams of Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), police and traffic department are also present at the incident site. At present, relief and search operations are going on. There is no official confirmation yet regarding the cause of the fire, although the initial suspicion is that of short circuit. Police have started investigating the matter and action is being taken keeping all the aspects in mind. This incident is once again raising questions on the security arrangements in multi-storey buildings.
