IPL 2026: Rickelton joins the Orange Cap race, reaches sixth place
New Delhi. After the match played between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, a big change was seen in the race for the Orange Cap. Mumbai batsman Ryan Rickelton played a brilliant innings and left many players behind.
Ryan Rickelton played an explosive inning of 83 runs in just 32 balls in this match, due to which Mumbai Indians won. With this performance, his total runs in the season have reached 380 and he has directly reached the sixth position.
There is no change in the positions of the top five batsmen in the Orange Cap list. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Abhishek Sharma is in the first place with 440 runs, while KL Rahul of Delhi Capitals is in the second place with 433 runs. Heinrich Klaasen is at third place with 425 runs, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is at fourth place with 404 runs and Sai Sudarshan of Gujarat Titans is at fifth place with 385 runs.
Before Rickelton, there was a long list of players who had scored more than 300 runs, but his innings has brought him straight into the ranks of the top players. At present, no other batsman from Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants is included in the top 20.
Now all eyes are on KL Rahul, who will play in the next match against Chennai Super Kings and can regain the top spot with some fours.
At the same time, not much change was seen in the Purple Cap race. There were not many opportunities for the bowlers on the batting-friendly pitch of Wankhede Stadium and only nine wickets fell in the entire match.
Lucknow’s fast bowler Prince Yadav could not succeed in taking wickets, due to which he remains at sixth position with 13 wickets.
In the race for Purple Cap, Bhuvneshwar Kumar of Royal Challengers Bangalore and Anshul Kamboj of Chennai Super Kings are jointly on top with 17 wickets each. After him, Kagiso Rabada of Gujarat Titans is at third place with 16 wickets. Jofra Archer of Rajasthan Royals and Ishan Malinga of Sunrisers Hyderabad are at fourth and fifth position respectively with 15 wickets each.
Anshul Kamboj will have a chance to reach the top in the Purple Cap race by taking one wicket in the next match.
The race for the Orange and Purple Cap in IPL 2026 is becoming more exciting with every match.
