Hamirpur boat accident: Bodies of woman and four children found, one still missing

Hamirpur. Four children and a woman have died in an incident of boat capsizing in Yamuna river in Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The bodies of all five have been recovered.

There were 9 people on the boat. Three people were saved, while one is still missing. The search for the missing person continues. The marriage of the daughter of Raju Nishad of Bhauli village of Kurara police station area of ​​Hamirpur district took place on Tuesday.

Relatives from many villages along with their families had come to attend the wedding ceremony. After completing the farewell rituals of the bride on Wednesday, nine people related to Raju insisted on eating melon.

The people of Nishad community had prepared the cultivation of melon and watermelon on the sand of Yamuna river during the summer season. On Wednesday evening, Vishnu Nishad of the village took everyone by boat to feed melons.

There were nine people in the boat including Brijrani wife Pappu Nishad, Ghatampur resident Archana daughter Sarvesh, Rani daughter Bachchan, Akanksha daughter Ramhit, Lavyansh son Vishnu, Gorelal son Mahesh and Aditya son Mahesh.

Despite the bad weather, the boat reached across the Yamuna river, where after plucking melons in the sand, everyone started coming back in the boat, when due to the negligence of the sailor in the middle of the stream, the boat overturned.

There was an outcry during the accident. Vishnu somehow swam out, while local divers pulled Rinku and Parul out of the river and took them to the hospital.

Sailor Dhiru told that relatives had come to his sister’s wedding and after the farewell, they had crossed the Yamuna river in a boat to eat melon. While returning, the boat went out of control and overturned in the middle of the river.

Superintendent of Police Mrigank Shekhar Pathak said that during the rescue operation, bodies of Brijrani (35), wife Pappu Nishad, resident of Mankikala village, Archana (14) daughter Sarvesh, resident of Ghatampur, Rani (9) daughter Bachchan, resident of Kautupur village, Lavyansh (5) son Pappu, resident of Manki village, Akanksha (9) daughter Ramhet were found from the river in the rescue operation. The search for the other missing continues.

District Magistrate Abhishek Goyal said that financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each will be provided to the families of the deceased. Expressing grief over the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given instructions to speed up the relief work.

He wrote on X that the loss of lives in the boat accident in Hamirpur district is extremely sad. My condolences are with the bereaved family.

Instructions have been given to the concerned officials to speed up the relief work. It is a prayer to Lord Shri Ram to grant salvation to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved family members to bear this immense sorrow.
