VD Satheesan will take oath as CM at 10 am

Kerala: Congress leader VD Satheesan will take oath as the new Chief Minister of Kerala at 10 am. Along with him, 11 other MLAs will take oath as ministers. VD Satheesan met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar. During this, he staked claim to form the government and also submitted the list of ministers to the Governor. Satheesan and his cabinet members will take oath on Monday. He said that the list of ministers has been finalized after discussions with the alliance leaders and while keeping in mind the social and regional balance within the alliance.

Satheesan said senior party leaders Ramesh Chennithala, K Muraleedharan and Sunny Joseph would be inducted into the Cabinet. The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), which is coming to power in Kerala after 10 years, has decided to name senior MLA Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan as the Assembly Speaker, while Shanimol Usman will act as the Deputy Speaker.

Many worthy leaders out of the cabinet
Satheesan said that despite Congress getting 63 seats, many worthy leaders could not get a place in the cabinet. He described it as one of the party’s biggest victories in the state. He said, “There are many worthy leaders included in the list and also outside the list. But a party like Congress has to consider social balance, regional representation and many other factors while taking such decisions.” He said discussions on allocation of portfolios among the alliance partners are almost complete, only a few minor matters are pending. The final list will be formally submitted to the Governor and after approval will be notified through the Official Gazette.

The cabinet will be expanded after the formation of the government.
After taking oath as Chief Minister on Monday, the Speaker of the Assembly will administer the oath to all the MLAs. After this, Satheesan will divide the cabinet and its expansion can also happen during this time. Many other MLAs can be made ministers during the expansion. The total number of MLAs in Kerala is 140. In such a situation, there can be a maximum of 21 ministers. It has been decided to make a total of 12 MLAs including Satheesan as ministers. In such a situation, 9 more MLAs can be made ministers in future.
