Big decisions of Yogi cabinet: Panchayat elections, relief to metro and veterinary students

Lucknow. Many important proposals were approved in the Uttar Pradesh cabinet meeting held on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. A total of 12 proposals were approved in the meeting, of which the formation of a dedicated Backward Classes Commission to decide OBC reservation in Panchayat elections was the most talked about decision. Along with this, important decisions like Lucknow Metro expansion, Agra Metro project, expansion of health services and increase in internship allowance of veterinary students were also taken.

OBC commission will be formed for Panchayat elections

The Cabinet has approved the formation of a five-member Dedicated Backward Classes Commission to decide Other Backward Class (OBC) reservation in Panchayat elections. The commission will be headed by a retired judge of the High Court and its tenure will be six months. The commission will submit its report to the government, on the basis of which the status of reservation in Panchayat elections will be clear. It is believed that the report of the commission may come by November 2026, due to which the Panchayat elections are now expected to be held after the 2027 assembly elections.

Internship allowance increased for veterinary students

Giving a big relief to the students of BVSc & AH, the government has increased the internship allowance from Rs 8 thousand to Rs 12 thousand per month. At present more than 10 thousand veterinary students are studying in the state. This decision will provide financial help to the students.

Lucknow and Agra Metro projects approved

The Cabinet approved the MoU for Charbagh to Basant Kunj corridor of Lucknow Metro. Green signal was also given to the land transfer proposal for construction of station and viaduct from Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar under Corridor-2 of Agra Metro Rail Project.

Promotion of health and power projects

It was decided to give land to the Medical Education Department for the expansion of Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital in Prayagraj. At the same time, a 1010-bed multi-specialty emergency hospital, teaching block and a new OPD block will be built in the new campus of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow, which will cost about Rs 855 crore. Apart from this, a big power sub-station and new power lines will be built in Mirzapur at a cost of Rs 2800 crore, which will strengthen the power system in the area and will benefit the industries.
