Weather: 19th May 2026: Thunderstorm alert in these 12 states including Bihar-Jharkhand

New Delhi. These days the weather patterns are changing in many parts of the country. Heat and heat wave continues in North-West and Central India, while a warning of heavy rain has been issued in North-East India, East India and South India. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in the North-East and Andaman and Nicobar for the next 6-7 days. In some states of South India, there is alert of thunderstorm with heavy rain for the next 3 days.

Continuous rain in north-east India
The rainy season will continue till May 23 in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. There is a possibility of very heavy rain in Assam-Meghalaya on 22 and 23 May. There are chances of heavy rains in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till May 23. Along with this, there is also a warning of strong winds at a speed of 30-50 kilometers per hour along with thunderstorms in these areas. In such a situation, people are advised to remain alert. Heavy rain and hailstorm in South India. There is a possibility of heavy rain in parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh till May 19. Strong winds of 40-60 kilometers per hour may occur along with thunderstorms in Coastal Karnataka, Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Heavy rain in eastern India also
There is a possibility of heavy rain in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from 20 to 23 May. There will be rain in Andaman and Nicobar Islands throughout the week. In Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha too, there will be light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds for several days.

Jharkhand suffering from heat will get relief
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain in many parts of the state till May 23 in Jharkhand. Along with the rain, there is also a possibility of strong winds with a speed of 40-50 kilometers per hour, storm and lightning.

Orange and yellow alert in these districts of Jharkhand
While there is an orange alert for Dhanbad and Giridih districts on 19th May, orange alert has been issued for nine districts on 20th May. There is an alert of thunderstorm and rain in a total of 11 districts of Jharkhand, where the wind speed can reach 50-60 kilometers per hour. There is less possibility of rain in Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Chatra, Koderma and Hazaribagh districts. IMD Ranchi Deputy Director Abhishek Anand said that it will be partly cloudy. The maximum temperature may increase by 2 degrees Celsius in the next two days. After that there will be no significant change in the temperature for three days.
