“New Vidhan Bhavan” will be built on the land of Sahara city in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

Lucknow. A new grand and modern technology-equipped Legislative Assembly will be constructed in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. This new complex will be built on 245 acres of land in Sahara city located in Gomti Nagar. For this, Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has issued a tender for selection of consultant and architect for design and planning. With the construction of this new Vidhan Bhavan, the 98 year old Vidhan Bhavan built in Hazratganj will be retired and recorded in the pages of history.

In 1994, the Municipal Corporation had provided 245 acres of land in Gomti Nagar to Sahara India Group on a 30-year lease. Last year the lease ended in 2025. After violation of the terms and conditions of the lease and completion of the period, the Municipal Corporation and LDA took the land back into their possession. Of the total 245 acres of proposed land, 170 acres is owned by the Municipal Corporation and 75 acres is owned by the LDA. Now the hi-tech Vidhan Bhavan of Uttar Pradesh will be built at this place.

This new complex will be prepared keeping in mind the increase in the number of MLAs after delimitation in future. Apart from the Legislative Assembly, the complex is planned to be designed with Legislative Council, Chamber of Ministers, modern facilities, better parking, green area and digital infrastructure and smooth VIP movement with complete paper less technology.

LDA Vice President Prathamesh Kumar said that a tender has been issued for the selection of consultant and architect for the design and planning for the construction of the new Vidhan Bhavan. Companies interested in this tender process will be able to apply from May 23 to June 21. After the consultant is selected, the detailed work plan (DPR) of the project and the total construction cost will be decided. The Housing and Urban Planning Department has been made the nodal agency for this entire project, while the Public Works Department (PWD) will work on the technical aspects. After receiving the consultant’s report, the final decision will be taken at the government level. Once the design is finalized, a presentation will be given in front of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

On February 11, Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Khanna had made a provision of Rs 100 crore for the new Vidhan Bhavan in the budget of 2026-27. On February 4, the government had ordered the LDA to finalize the location and submit the design.

98 year old Vidhan Bhavan will be retired

Vidhan Bhavan (Legislative Assembly) of Uttar Pradesh was completed on 21 February 1928 in Hazratganj area. There is currently a shortage of space in the nearly 98 year old Vidhan Bhawan due to the increasing number of MLAs. At the same time, due to VIP movement and being a main road during the House session, the traffic system gets affected. Construction of the new Legislative Assembly will provide relief from all this.
