Nepal PM Balendra Shah holds meeting with ambassadors of European Union countries
Kathmandu. Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Tuesday held a joint meeting with residential and non-resident ambassadors and heads of missions of Kathmandu and European Union (EU) associated countries. During the meeting, various issues related to diplomatic and bilateral cooperation were discussed with the representatives of European countries.
Addressing the joint meeting of residential and non-residential ambassadors of European Union member countries at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Tuesday, Prime Minister Shah said that his government is committed to improving the standard of living of Nepali citizens. He said that being new does not mean that we are completely separated from the past. We are fully committed to protecting democratic values and maintaining political stability, so that Nepal’s policy direction remains clear, stable and predictable.
Prime Minister Shah said that the government wants to create new opportunities for citizens by using global markets. Also, it aims to promote sustainable development by simplifying procedures to attract large-scale investment. He also reiterated that Nepal will continue to pursue a balanced and pragmatic foreign policy. Along with this, he said that efforts will be continued to strengthen cooperation in various important areas including trade, investment, green energy, climate change, tourism.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shah said that common citizens are bearing the biggest burden of the ongoing conflicts in different parts of the world. He stressed the need to give priority to dialogue, diplomacy and international law rather than military confrontation to ensure lasting peace.
Ambassadors and other diplomats of European Union countries based in Kathmandu and New Delhi praised Nepal for conducting peaceful elections. He also congratulated Prime Minister Shah on taking over leadership of the new government with a mandate to prioritize good governance, economic growth and prosperity. The diplomats also expressed commitment to enhance cooperation and investment in various sectors to support Nepal’s economic development and national progress.
This delegation included ambassadors and deputy ambassadors of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
