India won brilliantly with the explosive innings of Jemima and Yastika, defeated England by 38 runs.
Chelmsford. The Indian women’s cricket team performed brilliantly in both the batting and bowling departments and defeated England by 38 runs in the first T20 match to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. India recovered from the initial shock and scored 188 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs and then restricted England to 150 runs for 8 wickets.
The Indian team, which came to bat first after losing the toss, had a very bad start. England’s fast bowler Lauren Bell gave a big blow to India by dismissing acting captain Smriti Mandhana and Shefali Verma in the very first over.
However, after this, Yastika Bhatia and Jemimah Rodrigues took charge of the innings with fast batting. One over from England bowler Izzy Wong proved to be a match-changer for India, scoring 27 runs. Yastika scored a brilliant half-century, while Jemima batted aggressively and played an excellent inning of 69 runs.
The century partnership between the two batsmen put India in a strong position. Although England tried to make a comeback with both of them getting out in quick succession in the 14th over, Deepti Sharma’s useful cameo innings took India to 188 runs.
Chasing the target of 189 runs, England also had a bad start. Kranti Gaur and Arundhati Reddy bowled brilliantly and gave the initial shocks. England scored only 43 runs in the powerplay.
Amy Jones batted hard and scored a half-century in 32 balls and partnered with Heather Knight to keep England in the contest. But the Indian bowlers maintained constant pressure.
Sri Charani broke important partnerships, while Nandani Sharma dashed England’s hopes by taking wickets in two consecutive balls. England could add only 30 runs in the last five overs and India easily won the match.
