International para athlete Chirag Tyagi shot dead, fellow player in custody
Ghaziabad. Police have detained an accused in the case of the shooting death of international para athlete Chirag Tyagi (24), who was returning home after winning gold and silver medals in the 8th Indian Open Para Athletics Competition in Bangalore on Saturday afternoon.
His body was found on Saturday afternoon in Sai Upvan of Kotwali Nagar police station area of Ghaziabad. Fellow para athlete Yash Khatik has been detained on murder charges.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhawal Jaiswal said that after Chirag was shot in the back, his face was badly bruised. One mobile phone of Chirag was found from the spot, while the other phone was missing.
On the basis of CCTV footage, Yash Khatik was taken into custody. During interrogation, he told that both of them had participated together in the competition in the blind category.
Chirag used to participate in 100 and 400 meter races. Chirag had once complained about Yash during document verification. Then Yash’s qualification was cancelled.
To take revenge, he committed this crime. On his information, the police is trying to recover the weapon used in the murder.
Police have sent the body of Chirag, resident of Basantpur Saithali village of Muradnagar, for post-mortem. Today the post-mortem of his body is taking place. Police have registered a case on the complaint of Chirag’s father Manoj.
