North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visits nuclear material production facility

Pyongyang (North Korea)/Seoul (South Korea). North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong-un has visited a recently opened nuclear material production facility. On this occasion, he has pledged to rapidly strengthen the country’s stockpile of nuclear weapons. Kim was also accompanied by prominent party officials. This information was given by the government media Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Thursday. KCNA has not disclosed the location.

South Korean newspaper ‘The Korea Times’ has discussed this development in its report quoting KCNA and South Korea’s Defense Ministry. The Defense Ministry press conference in Seoul said the facility could be a uranium enrichment site. At present, North Korea has uranium enrichment facilities in Yongbyon, Kangson and Kusong. The Defense Ministry said it was not clear whether Kim visited a fourth facility.

Kim said that North Korea’s nuclear material production capacity has more than doubled in the last five years. This is important in times of potential danger and unexpected long-term crisis. He indicated that Pyongyang has no intention of backing down from its nuclear ambitions. He said that the new center is a milestone in the direction of rapidly upgrading the country’s nuclear capability. It is noteworthy that in September 2024, North Korea disclosed its uranium enrichment facility for the first time.
