Decision to deploy additional forces to deal with strike in PoK
Muzaffarabad (PoK) Pakistan. The federal government has decided to deploy additional civil armed forces and police personnel in view of the Joint Awami Action Committee’s call for protest (strike) on June 9 in Pakistan illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK). The local government has also issued a warning for tourists.
Dunya News report quoted sources as saying that 1,000 Punjab Rangers and 2,000 Frontier Constabulary personnel will be sent to PoK. Apart from this, 2,000 officers of Islamabad Police and 1,000 officers of Sindh Police will also be deployed in PoK. The PoK government has also issued a warning for tourists.
The PoK government has appealed to the people to avoid entering the province and not undertake unnecessary travel between June 5 and June 20. People who are planning to visit the region for tourism or other purposes have been advised to postpone their travel. The government said in the advisory that people should avoid traveling due to the possibility of protests. Tourists and pilgrims who are currently in the area have been instructed to leave by the evening of June 5.
The government has also warned that the call for protests could impact tourism activities across PoK. Officials said the safety of tourists and travelers is the government’s top priority. As a precautionary measure, a special advisory has been issued in view of possible protests and disruption in the movement of people.
