Drunk ASI’s car collides with BRTS bus, liquor and uniform recovered
Surat. A drunken policeman, while driving at a high speed, hit a BRTS bus going ahead on Sunday. The accident was so severe that the front part of the car was completely damaged. It is fortunate that there was no loss of life in this accident.
According to the eyewitnesses of this accident which took place in Umra extension area of Surat today, the condition of the policeman after the accident was such that he was not even able to speak properly. When the local people interrogated him, he repeatedly refused to accept himself as a policeman and kept saying that he was not a constable. After the accident, he was seen doing strange acts and arguing in front of people on the public road.
Police uniform, liquor bottle and glass found in car
After the accident, when the people present at the spot examined the Swift car (GJ-05-JN-9127), the official police uniform and belt were recovered from the back seat of the car.
The nameplate on the uniform read Ajaybhai H. Patel, ASI, Police No. 2559, Surat City. Apart from this, a liquor bottle and plastic glass were also found inside the car, due to which it is suspected that the policeman was consuming alcohol while driving.
Police detained ASI
According to Umra police, the person who caused the accident is an employee of the police department and was in an intoxicated state at the time of the incident. Preliminary investigation has identified him as Ajay Patel, who has been working as ASI in Surat Police Headquarters for the last five years.
At present, Umra police has taken the accused ASI Ajay Patel into custody and started legal action against him under the Prohibition Act and sections related to road accidents. After this incident, questions have started being raised about the functioning and image of Surat Police.
