6.3 magnitude earthquake in China’s Qinghai province, 1 dead and panic due to many aftershocks

New Delhi . A powerful earthquake of 6.3 magnitude occurred in China’s Qinghai province on Tuesday, causing panic in the entire region. The epicenter of the earthquake was reported to be in a mountainous and remote area of Hexi province. The tremors were so strong that people got scared and came out of their homes and offices.

The time of the earthquake was around 5:06 pm local time and its depth was said to be only 10 kilometers. Due to less depth, the intensity of the tremors was felt more. After this, continuous aftershocks were also recorded in the area, one of which measured magnitude 5. The situation became more frightening due to several earth tremors within about 40 minutes.

According to local media and disaster management, at least one person has died in this earthquake, while four others have been seriously injured. Relief and rescue operations are also being hampered by persistent aftershocks, and people are forced to spend time under the open sky in safer places.

The Chinese administration immediately activated relief and rescue teams and increased surveillance in the area. The Disaster Management Department has kept the situation in limited but sensitive category and said that the possibility of large-scale damage is still low. This entire area falls in the seismic zone of collision of Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, where earthquakes occur from time to time.
