IIT-Delhi is amazing in QS World University Rankings
IIT Delhi: IIT-Delhi has topped among Indian institutions for the second consecutive year in the QS World University Rankings 2027. IIT Delhi has climbed five places to 118th position globally. This is the highest position ever for an Indian institute, which was first achieved by IIT-Bombay in the 2025 rankings. IIT-Bombay, which had topped the country’s list in the past, has fallen from 129th to 134th. Last year also it had fallen down by 11 ranks.
What is QS World University Ranking?
The QS World University Rankings is one of the world’s most popular university rankings, released every year by the UK company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The ranking is based on indicators such as academic reputation (30%), employer reputation (15%), faculty-student ratio, faculty citations, internationalization and employment outcomes. MIT tops the list in the 2026-27 edition, followed by Imperial College and Stanford. The ranking, which helps millions of students choose the best university, measures the quality of education, research and global outlook.

IIT among top 10 institutions of the country
Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) continue to dominate the list of top 10 institutes in the country. Apart from IIT Delhi and IIT Mumbai, IIT Madras (up from 180th position last year to 170th this year) is the only Indian institute to feature in the top 200 institutes globally. According to reports, apart from these, Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences, a private institute located in Himachal Pradesh, has also reached 452nd position in the list of top 10 universities of India, which is 503rd position last year.
Which institutions are doing better at the national level?
IIT Kharagpur (205), IIT Kanpur (221), Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (221), University of Delhi (322), IIT Roorkee (335) and IIT Guwahati (349). Of these, the rankings of ISC and IIT Guwahati have fallen compared to last year.
