Terrorist attack on Rangers headquarters in Karachi, 3 soldiers martyred, 5 terrorists killed

Islamabad. Three soldiers lost their lives in a terrorist attack on the Sindh Rangers headquarters in Karachi, the capital of Pakistan’s Sindh province, on Saturday night.

During this, five terrorists were killed in the firing by security forces. One attacker was captured alive with injuries. ISPR, the media and public relations wing of Pakistan Army, confirmed this.

The ISPR release said security forces foiled a terror attack on Sindh Rangers headquarters, Pakistan Today reported. This attack was carried out by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a terrorist organization associated with the banned organization Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The terrorists attacked the local headquarters of Sindh Rangers located in the densely populated Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of ​​Karachi at around 8:30 pm on Saturday night.

Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho confirmed the attack late last night and said that three Rangers soldiers were martyred in the incident.

The provincial police chief said the attackers first crashed their vehicle into the main gate of the complex. He said that the commandos of Special Security Unit, Anti-Terrorist Force and Rangers personnel took up the position promptly.

Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, affiliated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, has claimed responsibility for this attack. The group has been mainly active in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in recent years and has been targeting civilians, security personnel and government officials.

A police officer, on condition of anonymity, said that at least four Rangers soldiers were martyred in this attack. “Five terrorists have also been killed and the body of the sixth terrorist has also been found,” the officer said.

The terrorist whose body was found is a suicide bomber.” Another source claimed that one terrorist has also been captured alive and another in injured condition.

The previous major terrorist attack in Karachi took place near the airport on 6 October 2024. One person was killed and 11 others, including foreign nationals, were injured.

The banned Baloch Liberation Army took responsibility for this attack. In February 2023, terrorists attacked the Karachi Police Office on Shahrah-e-Faisal, killing four people. During this period, three terrorists associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan were also killed.

According to the monthly security report of the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, Pakistan’s security situation deteriorated rapidly in May after two consecutive months of improvement and this latest attack took place during this period. According to the report, 128 terrorist attacks took place in Pakistan in May. Earlier in April there were 101 attacks.
