Raipur: Strictness on drunk and driving, 47 drunk drivers caught in one night
Raipur. Raipur Police Commissionerate’s traffic police is continuing a special campaign against drunken driving. On the instructions of the Police Commissioner and in-charge Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Protocol), strict legal action is being taken against drunken driving.
According to the traffic police, so far in the year 2026, action has been taken against a total of 3559 drunk drivers under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. At the same time, in the special drunk and drive campaign conducted on the night of June 27, 47 drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
A special investigation campaign was conducted under the leadership of Assistant Police Commissioner (Traffic) Seema Ahirwar at a total of 9 places in the city including Telibandha Chowk, Pachpedi Naka Chowk, Bhanthagaon Chowk, Tatibandh Chowk, Kalibari Chowk, Jai Stambh Chowk, Bhanpuri Chowk and in front of Pandari police station.
The 47 drivers caught during the investigation include 29 car, 4 motorcycle, 1 e-rickshaw, 7 Tata Ace and 6 truck drivers. Challan action has been taken against all and they will be presented in the court as per rules.
The traffic police clarified that this campaign is not being run continuously to achieve any target, but with the aim of reducing road accidents, ensuring safety of life and property of people and maintaining traffic discipline.
Police said that driving under the influence of alcohol is not only a legal offense but also poses a serious threat to the life of the driver and other pedestrians.
The traffic police has appealed to all the drivers to follow the road safety rules, not to drive under the influence of alcohol and as responsible citizens, cooperate in the safe traffic system.
