Kidambi Srikanth lost in the final of US Open badminton

Fullerton. India’s experienced shuttler Kidambi Srikanth’s dream of winning the US Open Super 300 badminton tournament remained unfulfilled. In the men’s singles final on Sunday, he had to face defeat in a three-game match against Su Li-Yang of Chinese Taipei.

World Championship 2021 silver medalist and former world number-1 Srikanth made a brilliant comeback after losing the first game and won the second game, but in the deciding game he could not respond to the fast pace and aggressive play of his young opponent. In the match that lasted for almost an hour, Srikanth lost 15-21, 21-16, 9-21.

33-year-old Srikanth was playing his first final of this season. She started the match well, but took advantage of some unnecessary mistakes and Su Li-Yang won the first game.

In the second game, Srikanth demonstrated excellent net play and powerful smashes. They maintained the lead continuously and leveled the match by winning the game 21-16.

However, in the decisive third game, Su Li-Yang played aggressively from the beginning and kept the pressure on Srikanth by continuously taking the lead. By the break they had a four-point lead. After this, Srikanth could not make a comeback and Su Li-Yang won the match and won the first BWF World Tour title of her career.

Despite this defeat, Srikanth’s performance was excellent throughout the tournament. He made it to the final by defeating Yudai Okimoto of Japan in the semi-finals. Last year also he was runner-up in Malaysia Masters Super 500 and Syed Modi International Super 300. This time too he had to be satisfied with a silver medal.
