Manipur: Security forces crack down on insurgency and drug networks, weapons and cash seized
Imphal. Security forces and police in Manipur have arrested several active militants and drug smugglers in separate operations conducted in the last 24 hours. Arms, ammunition, huge amount of cash and suspected brown sugar were also recovered during these operations.
On Friday, security forces arrested Kangabam Deni Singh alias Boney (40), an active member of KCP (PWG), from Langathel Khongjom Road area of Thoubal district, Manipur Police said officially on Saturday.
On the same day, two active members of RPF/PLA were also caught from their homes. These include an alleged extortionist of the organization and the Finance Secretary of Imphal West. Two pistols, two guns and a large quantity of live cartridges were recovered from their possession.
In another action, Manipur Police arrested Ningthoujam Akanganba Meitei (27), a resident of Imphal East district, for his alleged involvement in the MPTC Pangei armory robbery and firing incident in a residential area in the year 2023.
During another operation conducted in Churachandpur district, police arrested three people and seized about 2.5 kg of suspected brown sugar, Rs 31.43 lakh in cash, a Bolero vehicle and a cash counting machine from their possession.
Earlier, security forces arrested two active members of PLA near Border Pillar-86 of Tengnoupal district. Both the accused are residents of Thoubal district.
The operations of security forces and Manipur Police are continuing against militant activities, illegal arms and drug trafficking in the state.
