China’s reaction on India-Japan cooperation, said- partnership should not lead to conflict

New Delhi/Beijing. Responding to the growing cooperation between India and Japan, China has said that the aim of the partnership between the two countries should not be to target any third country, especially China.

This statement has come at a time when India and Japan have agreed to increase cooperation in critical minerals and strategic sectors.

According to Singapore’s leading news network CNA (Channel News Asia), Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Friday that cooperation between the two countries should be to enhance mutual understanding and trust, and not to harm the interests of any third party. He also said that any kind of alliance or cooperation should not become a reason for increasing conflict.

The remarks came after the meeting in which issues like critical minerals, semiconductors, quantum technology and strengthening supply chains were discussed between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in New Delhi. These minerals are widely used in electric vehicles, smartphones and defense equipment.

Relations between China and Japan have been tense in recent years over the Taiwan issue and regional security. Beijing also objected to Japan’s comments about military intervention in the event of a possible Taiwan crisis.

According to reports, China recently added some Japanese companies to the export ban list, which Tokyo called “unacceptable and regrettable” and demanded its withdrawal.

Meanwhile, both India and Japan have said that they are working on making supply chains more robust and secure by increasing cooperation in strategic sectors.
