Sangharsh Committee expressed displeasure over harassment of electricity workers

  • The real credit for the achievements of the energy sector in the last nine years goes to the electricity workers and engineers, but even today there is oppression: Sangharsh Samiti

Lucknow. Central officials of Vidyut Karmachari Joint Sangharsh Committee, Uttar Pradesh have said that the nine years of achievements of the energy sector in Uttar Pradesh, the remarkable progress made in the energy sector in the state during the last years – expansion of power generation, transmission and distribution system, construction of new sub-stations, installation of transformers, extension of power lines, record power connections to consumers, improvement in power supply, reduction in line losses, digitalization of consumer services and strengthening of power system in rural and urban areas are behind all the achievements like state. It has been the tireless hard work, dedication and devotion of lakhs of electricity employees, contract workers and electricity engineers of India.

He said that even in extreme heat, rain, storm and adverse conditions, electricity workers and engineers work day and night to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the people of the state. Due to their hard work and commitment, Uttar Pradesh is continuously achieving new achievements in the energy sector.

But the extremely unfortunate situation is that on one hand the government is publicizing the achievements of the energy sector, while on the other hand the power workers and engineers who are the actual creators of those achievements are being continuously harassed by the Power Corporation management.

The Sangharsh Committee said that on March 19, 2023, clear instructions were given by the Honorable Energy Minister that the harassing actions taken against the electricity employees and engineers during the March 2023 movement should be withdrawn. But till date those instructions have not been followed. As a result, promotions, service benefits, salary related bills and retirement benefits of a large number of employees and engineers are being adversely affected and many cases are pending for years.

The struggle committee also said that various agreements made with the employees are not being followed by the management. On one hand, excellent performance and better power system are expected from the employees, while on the other hand, harassing actions continue to demoralize them. This situation is not only against the interests of the employees but is also not conducive to the long-term development of the energy sector.

Officials of the Electricity Employees Joint Struggle Committee, Uttar Pradesh have requested the Chief Minister of the state Yogi Adityanath to effectively intervene in this matter and direct the Power Corporation management to immediately follow the instructions of the Energy Minister dated March 19, 2023, all harassing actions related to the March 2019 movement should be withdrawn, the pending service related cases of employees and engineers should be resolved quickly and all agreements should be ensured honestly.

He said that when the harassment of electricity employees and engineers will end, then they will be able to work with full dedication and double enthusiasm to further strengthen the electricity system of the state and take Uttar Pradesh to new heights in the energy sector as before.
