PM Modi expressed deep condolences on the demise of former Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad

New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep condolences on the demise of Qatar’s ‘Father Emir’ and the country’s former ruler Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Describing him as a visionary leader, he said that under his leadership Qatar established new dimensions of development, prosperity and global identity.

Prime Minister Modi wrote on social media platform X that India is deeply saddened by the demise of Father Amir of Qatar. He said that during his visit to Qatar in February 2024, he had the opportunity to meet Sheikh Hamad and he considered him a true friend of India. The Prime Minister also expressed his condolences to the current Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the royal family and the people of Qatar. On Sunday, Qatar’s highest government body, the Amiri Diwan, officially announced the death of Sheikh Hamad.

Calling it a big loss for the nation, the organization prayed for the peace of the late leader’s soul. Sheikh Hamad ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013. During his tenure the country made significant progress in the field of natural gas production, making Qatar one of the most prosperous countries in the world. He also gave a new direction to foreign policy and strengthened Qatar’s global diplomatic role.
