Devotee dies during Puri Rath Yatra, Naveen Patnaik expresses grief

Bhubaneswar. On Thursday, during the world famous Shri Jagannath Rath Yatra, a devotee died due to his health deteriorating amidst the crowd gathered at the famous ‘Grand Road’ (Baddand) located in Puri, Odisha, while many other devotees got injured due to the pressure and chaos of the crowd. The injured are undergoing treatment in various hospitals.

According to the information received from the District Headquarters Hospital, the devotee suddenly had trouble breathing, after which he fell unconscious in the middle of the crowd. With the help of the people present there and the security personnel, he was immediately taken to Puri District Headquarters Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead after investigation.

Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep grief over the incident of death of a devotee amidst the crowd on the famous ‘Grand Road’ (Baddand) located in Puri, Odisha during the Rath Yatra organized in Puri. Describing this incident as extremely painful, he expressed condolences to the bereaved family.

Naveen Patnaik said in his message that the news of the death of a devotee on a holy occasion like Rath Yatra has made him extremely sad. He prayed for the peace of the soul of the deceased devotee and wished for the speedy recovery of hundreds of devotees injured in this accident.

He said that in this sad time, all the workers of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will come forward to help the needy and provide all possible support. He appealed to the party workers to play an active role in helping the injured and their families.

Naveen Patnaik also appealed to the state government to make crowd management more effective during huge events like Rath Yatra. He said that ensuring the convenience and safety of the devotees should be the primary responsibility of the administration.
