Strong earthquake in Mexico

Mexico: A massive 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Mexico’s southern state of Chiapas on Friday, prompting tsunami warnings and tremors felt in parts of Central America. This tremendous seismic activity also shook neighboring countries like El Salvador and Guatemala. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred near the Mexican city of Puerto Madero at a depth of just 10 kilometers below ground, causing strong underground vibrations in nearby areas that caused buildings to shake. After some time, another shock was felt, whose intensity was 6.0, due to which the possibility of aftershocks has also increased.

Videos shared on social media showed buildings shaking violently and items falling from shelves and walls, while people in the area were seen running out of buildings.
Following the earthquake, the US Tsunami Warning System issued a tsunami alert for the region and warned of dangerous changes in sea level along affected coasts. According to the Meteorological Department, the sea level on the coasts of Mexico and Guatemala may rise by 0.3 to 1 meter. The administration has advised people living in coastal areas to move to safe places immediately.
