New Delhi. The ongoing students’ agitation at Jantar Mantar did not stop despite police action on Monday. Many students and security personnel were injured in the lathicharge on protesters during the day. The Jantar Mantar stage was damaged and power supply was also disrupted. Despite this, by night the movement again gained momentum. Hundreds of students again reached Jantar Mantar and continued their protest throughout the night.
The protesters allege that police and security personnel used batons to disperse them, resulting in serious head and body injuries to many students.
Many injured returned to the protest site after treatment and joined the demonstration.
The protesting students allege that the stage of Jantar Mantar was demolished after the police lathi charge.
But there was seating space there, after which the crowd of protesters increased at Jantar Mantar as the evening approached.
However, police put up barricades near Kerala Bhavan and blocked people’s entry. But after 9 pm the crowd of protesters increased.
Demonstration continued even amidst heavy rain and darkness
At around 10 o’clock the weather also tested the protesters. It was raining heavily. There was no electricity at Jantar Mantar. Despite darkness, the protesters continued shouting slogans by lighting flash lights of mobile phones. Sitting on the rain-soaked ground, the students remained adamant on their demands. As the night deepened, the tone of the movement became louder. A large number of students were present at the protest site. Many officials including Abhijeet Deepke remained standing at Jantar Mantar the whole night and kept encouraging the protesters.
